A look back at 2018: notary review
In March 2019, the Chamber of Notaries published its review of the property market compiling the PERVAL data from 1 January to 31 December 2018 in the Rhône region. We have highlighted some interesting points from this review:
- Overall fall in sales volumes of 4.1% with a sharp decrease in the sale of new apartments and building land;
- Increase of 6.8% in sales prices for old apartments and of 5.7% for old houses;
- Median price per sq. m. for old-build apartments in Lyon: €3,910 (+9.1%) vs €3,120 for the city of Lyon;
- Median sales price for old-build houses in Lyon: €525,000 (+7.1%) vs €350,800 for the city of Lyon.

The high-end real estate market in Lyon: Q1 update by BARNES
2018 was a record year for BARNES Lyon with 103 sales representing almost €90 million in transaction value. This represents growth of 30% in sales volumes compared to 2017.
The median price of properties sold in Lyon has exceeded the symbolic threshold of €6,000, stabilising at €6,053/sq. m., up 10%. Meanwhile, the median sale time has increased to 65 days compared to 57 in 2017.
BARNES 2019 high-end real estate market review
2019 has started out with a ‘soft landing’, despite exceptionally high sales volumes.
Prices continue to rise at the same pace with a median price of €6,197/sq. m., i.e. a 2.3% increase.
The sales volume is up dramatically with 40 sales in Q1 totalling €35 million, among which the impressive sale at an emblematic address in the 6th arrondissement for over €2.7 million. The median sale time has stabilised at 67 days. 24 sales have already been recorded in April, for a total value of €30 million.
